Cappamore GAA and Camogie Results and Reports

U12 Hurling V Na Piarsagh

Na Piarsaigh 2-8 vs 2-2 Cappamore
We travelled to Na Piarsaigh to face a very strong team. Na Piarsaigh started the brighter and got into the game much quicker than our lads. They scored the first two points early on. They soon added a goal. We were struggling to impose ourselves on the game. At half time we were loosing 1-4 to 0-1, with Alex Heney scoring our point.
We made some positional changes at half time to try and tighten up on Na Piarsaigh and win more ball. The second half though continued in the same vein as the first with Na Piarsaigh tacking over some more points, we still battled away and were beginning to get more and more into the match. Alex Heney score another point from a free. Unfortunately Na Piarsaigh scored another goal. This though seemed to motivate our lads, at this stage we had nothing to loose and the boys seemed to play with more freedom and tore into the opposition for the last ten minutes. We won a 21 yard free which Alex Heney dispatched to the net. We continued to pile on the pressure on the Na Piasaigh goal. Cillian O’Dwyer hit a long range free into the goal mouth and was unlucky to see his effort com back off the post. Alex Heney had a goal bound shot hit one of his own players on the back of the head. Another 21 yard free was won and again Alex hit the back of the net.
It finished 2-8 to 2-2, We might have been beaten by a better team but we battled to the very end and finished strongly.
Squad: Malachy Keogh, Cillian O’Dwyer, Andrew Caher, Cian O’Connor, Alex Heney, Tommy Dillon, Jacob Wright, James Ryan, Chris Smith, Fionn Cunnngham, Dion Doyle, David Meehan, Shane O’Neill, Darragh O’Shaughnessy, Leo Keogh.

U12 Football
Monaleen 1-7 vs 0-7 Cappamore
In what was a tight close match we lost by the deciding goal which came from a suspect penalty awarded to Monaleen half way through the second half.
In the first half there was nothing between the two teams, both team traded points, with Monaleen going into an early lead but with points from Jake Slattery (0-2) and one each from Chris Smith and Ben Ryan, it was all square at half time 0-4 a piece.
Second Half continued in the same vein as the first with nothing between the two teams, Ben Ryan knocked over a free for us, and Jake Slattery scored his third point. Monaleen also scored a few points, but the game turned when the referee awarded Monaleen a penalty. We battled hard after that set back but we couldn’t close the 3 point gap, Chris smith scored another point but also did Monaleen.
It finished on a scoreline of 1-7 to 0-7. The boys played really well, and if we had shown a bit more composure on the ball at times and made better decisions when in possession we may have gotten back into to it, but we can’t fault the effort put in by all the squad.
Squad: Cillian O’Dwyer, Malachy Keogh, Andrew Caher, Cian O’Connor, Alex Heney, Jacob Wright,James Ryan, Ben Ryan, Jake Slattery, Chris Smith,David Meehan, Tommy Dillon, Dion Doyle, Fionn Cunningham, Tadgh Blackwell, Leo Keogh

Kilpeacon 3-10 vs 4-7Cappamore
Played in Fedamore this game was a real battle with both sides playing some great football. Cappamore got off to a great start with 2 goals from Evan Coleman and Matty Walsh. Kilpeacon settled and found the net twice along with points from frees. Further points from Joe Smith(2), Donnacha Hogan and a free from Evan Coleman left it level at the break.
Cappamore went in search of a goal again and Shane O Connor got on the end of a free to fist the ball to the net. Seamus Hanley added another point with a fine solo effort. Kilpeacon replied again and went ahead only for Donnacha Hogan to find the net again with a cracking goal. Cappamore now leading by 1 point had Cillian O’Dwyer to thank when he tipped a blistering effort by Kilpeacon over the bar in the last act of the game. Great effort on the night by all players

Thursday 16th May

Cappamore 4-07 vs 4-02 Cois Laoi Gaels
We played Cois Laoi Gaels in a highly entertaining and competitive football match.
Cois Laoi Gaels started the brighter and were off the mark that bit quicker than us. They got two early goals to race into 2-0 to 0-0 lead. We replied with 2 points from Ben Ryan and we were just getting into the game when Cois Laoi Gaels struck for another goal. We finished out the first half better and closed the gap on the scoreboard when Cian O’Connor scored a goal.
That left the half time score Cappamore 1-02 to Cois Laoi Gaels 3-01.
We regrouped at half time and then upped our game in the second half.
Dion added a point shortly after the restart, then Chris Smith knocked over a point, and when Ben Ryan soloed through the center to score the first of his two goals we were back level at 2-4 to 3-1. We soon took the lead for the first time in the match when Dion split the uprights with a fine point. We weren’t having it all our own way and the opposition managed to score another goal to go 2 points clear again. Now it was 4-01 to 2-05. This was a major blow to the team after working so hard to get back into the game, but the boys showed great and heart and determination to not let that set-back affect them. We worked really hard over the next few mins and when Ben Ryan added his second goal we were back in front, 4-01 to 3-05. Cois Laoi Gael equalised with a point at the other end. For the last few mins the lads really dug deep and we manged to get the final three scores of the match,1-02 scored by Dion Doyle.
It was a great team performance with every one of the starting players and the subs that came on all contributing to a deserved but hard fought victory. This was an enjoyable and exciting match to watch. That’s 2 win and 1 loss from our 3 football matches so far.
Squad: Darragh O’Shaughnessy, Andrew Caher, Cillian O’Dwyer, James Ryan, Alex Heney, Thomas Shanahan, Jacob Wright, Ben Ryan (2-02), Chris Smith (0-01), Dion Doyle(1-04), Leo Keogh, David Meehan, Cathal Mulligan, Cian O’Connor (1-00), Tommy Dillon, Tommy Hartnett, Tadgh Blackwell
Also in the squad but not togged out due to injury and illness were Cathal Mulcahy(broken finger), Jake Slattery (ankle sprain) and Mali Keogh (Chest infection) We wish them all a speedy recovery.
